Free for every student who needs it — supported by those who believe in the mission.
Running AI costs real money — every time the app generates a question or grades an answer, it uses cloud computing resources that I pay for. So why offer it for free?
Simply put, I believe in loving our community. "Love your neighbour as yourself" — that's the heart behind Professor Turtle. I wanted to build something that genuinely helps students and families, not something that profits from them.
If the platform grows and a lot of people start using it, I may need to introduce small charges in the future just to cover the running costs. But even then, the goal will always be to keep it as affordable as possible — never to maximise profit.
If you'd like to voluntarily help cover some of the running costs — no obligation, just a heart to support — feel free to get in touch. Every bit helps keep this going for the students who need it.
Think of AI like a very smart assistant that has read millions of textbooks, exam papers, and educational materials. When you ask it to generate a question or grade an answer, here's roughly what happens:
This computing power is measured in tokens — that's the unit AI systems use to track usage. Every question generated, answer graded, or chat message sent consumes a certain number of tokens. That's why I've set up a simple daily quota per account: enough for meaningful practice, but not so much that costs run away. Average users should be able to get through about 15–20 sets of questions a day, including marking — plenty for regular, productive revision.
Tokens are simply a way to manage usage fairly — think of them like a daily study budget.
Every day, your token balance is refreshed — enough for about 15–20 question sets including marking. Plenty for meaningful daily practice.
Without some limits, a handful of users could consume everything, leaving nothing for others. Tokens keep things fair so everyone gets their turn.
Professor Turtle is open to all individual students. If you're a school or organization, please get in touch — I'd love to help where I can.
