Not every child works best on a screen. Some kids โ€” my own included โ€” think better when there's a real pencil in their hand and a real page in front of them. Compositions, comprehension answers, the long science explanations: the stuff that benefits from handwriting is also the stuff that's hardest to mark.

My daughter would come home with a comprehension exercise she'd spent 40 minutes writing out. She'd hand it to me. I'd put it on the kitchen counter. Two days later it would still be there, and she'd have moved on to the next one. Multiply that by every subject, every week, and you can see the problem.

That's why this was the first feature I built. If your child prefers doing hands-on writing, this is the part of the app for you.

How it works

Prefer having your child do hands-on writing? No problem at all. Print the worksheet from the app, hand them a pencil, and let them work through it the old-fashioned way. When they're done, photograph the page with your phone and upload it back. The AI reads the handwriting, identifies the questions and the answers, and marks each one.

For an English composition or Chinese composition (ไฝœๆ–‡), the AI reads the full text and gives feedback on content, structure, and language โ€” the same things a teacher would mark on.

For comprehension answers, it reads the question, reads the student's answer, and checks it against the passage. Where the answer is right, it says so. Where the student inferred something the passage didn't actually support, it points it out.

For science open-ended answers written by hand โ€” "explain why the plant wilts", "describe how the circuit works" โ€” it reads the text and marks it using the same SEAB-style rubric as the typed-answer version.

The honest bit โ€” where this still isn't perfect

I'd rather be straight about the limitations:

What changed for us at home: the kitchen counter isn't piled with unmarked comprehension books any more. The work gets marked within minutes of being finished. My daughter sees the feedback while the work is still fresh, fixes what was wrong, and moves on. That alone was worth the build.

The pain point this solves

Handwritten work is the slow lane of revision. It takes the student a long time to produce, and even longer for someone to mark. Both sides get tired of it, and the practice quietly drops off the schedule.

Closing that loop โ€” fast marking on handwritten work โ€” was the whole reason the app exists. A child writing by hand, getting meaningful feedback within minutes, can finally do as much of the slow, valuable practice as they do of the fast MCQ stuff.

On the go

The phone is the camera, so this is the feature that lives best in dead moments. Photograph the page at the kitchen table, or even at the tuition centre after class. The marking happens on the ride home. By the time the child is at the door, the feedback is already there.
